NORTH 4040
Welcome to NORTH40 ARCHITECTS.
We pair beautiful design with a unique ability to really listen and interpret our clients aspirations into architecture, that enriches every day life. We put our clients at the centre of the process. From the first sketch, we push design boundaries and open up possibilities to create designs which inspire and delight. We will guide you through the project, offering a wealth of experience and unrivalled professionalism. There is no pre-set architectural style here. Each design responds to the individual requirements of the client and site, combined with our creative and technical expertise, to create architecture that is truly exceptional.
The Team
North40 is led by Architects, Alice Crayford and Amelia Phewa.
Alice and Amelia lead every project personally, bringing creative vision, strong design skills, and efficient project management.
At the heart of our architecture practice are two women who deeply understand the rhythm, structure and beautiful chaos of living. We know that a building isn’t just about square metres and materials — it’s about balance, flow and creating spaces that support everyday life. Structure and harmony sit at the core of everything we create — carefully considered architecture that feels calm, functional and timeless. We are proud to work with homeowners and developers throughout Yorkshire and Northern England, offering a personal, collaborative approach from concept through to completion. Whether you’re planning an extension, renovation or a new build, we bring clarity, creativity and careful attention to detail at every stage.

We had an initial meeting with Alice, who was professional, approachable and supportive of our vision of having holiday pods on our family farm. Throughout the project, she built a positive working relationship with the planning department, which helped us successfully obtain the necessary planning consent. Alice kept us informed with regular updates, ensuring we always knew exactly where we were in the planning process. We are extremely pleased with the service we received from North40 Architects and would highly recommend them.

They’re fully qualified and insured, and it shows in the way they approach projects — professional, thorough, and very well organised. Communication is always clear and timely, and they’re friendly and approachable throughout, which makes collaboration easy.
A genuinely great team to work with. Highly recommended.
